When I received the call to photograph Ashley and Loftin’s wedding at the breathtaking Garden of the Gods in Colorado, I knew I was in for something special. These two are among the sweetest people I’ve ever met, and their love story is refreshingly genuine. Family members came flying in from Tennessee, and the excitement was unmistakable. Being born in Tennessee (or maybe Kentucky—let’s just say my origins are still a bit uncertain) gave us some shared ground, even if I haven’t set foot back there since I was in diapers.
The atmosphere was electric, with everyone bustling around, ready to assist with everything from cooking dinner to tying ties and caring for the incredibly cute baby. The love and joy filled the Airbnb they rented in Colorado Springs, creating an environment that felt both warm and lively.
The Getting Ready Process
As the day unfolded, I took detail shots near a charming gazebo that also served as a star observatory—how cool is that? Just as I sank into my rhythm, a couple of deer grazed in a neighbor's yard nearby. It was one of those magical moments that reminded me why I adore photographing weddings in nature.
The getting-ready process was a blend of laughter, tears, and a tremendous amount of love. Friends and family rallied together, creating a cozy, intimate atmosphere that felt like a family reunion. I captured every tiny detail, from the bride’s intricate hairpins to the heartfelt notes exchanged, ensuring the story of their day was preserved for years to come.
The Ceremony at Garden of the Gods
As we made our way to the ceremony site, the typical overcast skies of Colorado Springs in September proved to be a hidden blessing. The soft, diffused light created some of the best wedding and elopement photos I’ve ever taken.

Garden of the Gods is truly enchanting, and the fact that it’s free to elope there makes it an appealing choice for small weddings or elopements, ideally accommodating under 35 people. The stunning red rock formations provided a captivating backdrop, blending grandeur with intimacy. After the ceremony, we captured family portraits, knowing full well that everyone had traveled all the way from Tennessee. The radiant love among them was contagious, filling me with gratitude to be part of such a monumental occasion.
Couples Portraits: A Photographer’s Dream

Now, let’s discuss the couples portraits. Outstanding is an understatement! These were among my favorites of 2025. The accessibility of gorgeous spots within the park meant minimal hiking, which was perfect for both the bride and me. This meant a lower risk of me tripping over my own feet (let’s be honest, I can be a tad clumsy) while also ensuring Ashley remained comfortable in her stunning wedding dress.
We effortlessly moved from one photogenic spot to another, capturing private moments in spectacular locations throughout the park. The overcast skies imparted a dreamy quality to the images, and though we encountered a little rain towards the end, it only contributed to the day’s enchantment.
A Delicious Celebration

After the ceremony, everyone gathered for some truly mouthwatering homemade tacos and salsa. If you haven’t tasted homemade tacos at a wedding, you are truly missing out! The food was delectable, and the atmosphere was overflowing with laughter and joy.

Once the tacos were devoured, we savored cake and enjoyed heartfelt toasts. It was an intimate celebration that beautifully captured the essence of Ashley and Loftin’s love. Each toast was filled with warmth, and you could sense the deep connection shared among everyone present.
A Memorable Journey

Photographing Ashley and Loftin’s wedding at Garden of the Gods was an unforgettable experience. The blend of stunning scenery, a loving family, and the genuine bond between the couple created an extraordinary day.
If you are considering an elopement or small wedding, I can’t recommend Garden of the Gods enough. The awe-inspiring views, ease of access, and the overall atmosphere make it a photographer’s paradise. Plus, who doesn’t appreciate a great homemade taco?
So here’s to love, laughter, and memories that are cherished for a lifetime. Cheers to Ashley and Loftin, and may your journey together be filled with as much happiness as your beautiful wedding day!
